Created for Guerlain and commissioned by MNSTR, Olfactive Landscapes explores a new way of experiencing perfume through immersive media. The experience was first unveiled at VivaTech before being deployed for one year across Guerlain’s international flagship boutiques. Inspired by the L’Art & La Matière fragrance collection, the project invites audiences to step inside cinematic environments shaped by the imagination of Guerlain perfumer Delphine Jelk.
Wearing a VR headset, visitors are guided through three immersive landscapes narrated by Delphine Jelk. Each universe visually interprets the identity of a fragrance, blending surreal environments with evolving atmospheres. At specific moments in the narrative, scent diffusers release the corresponding perfume notes, creating a synesthetic experience where visual storytelling and olfactory perception unfold simultaneously.
We developed the visual direction as a series of surreal landscapes designed to embody the emotional and sensory identity of each fragrance. Combining 3D blocking with generative AI exploration, the environments evolve from initial spatial mockups into richly detailed visual worlds that extend Guerlain’s artistic universe into immersive storytelling.
The visual production relied on a multi-step AI-driven pipeline. Initial scenes were designed in 3D and exported as depth and segmentation maps used to guide image generation with Stable Diffusion and custom-trained LoRA models via ControlNet. Additional stages included AI seam correction, SDXL enhancement, frame interpolation, upscaling, and AI-based depth extraction to produce stereoscopic VR footage. The final experience runs on Vive Focus headsets, with olfactory diffusion powered by Olfy’s dedicated hardware system.
